Land Acknowledgement

Kanata Plaza is proudly located on Six Nations of the Grand River, home to the Haudenosaunee people and to the Mohawk, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Seneca, and Tuscarora Nations.

We recognize the enduring relationship between the Haudenosaunee and this land, and the generations who have cared for its waters, built families and communities here, and carried forward cultural knowledge, responsibilities, and ways of life.

The lands along the Grand River form part of the Haldimand Tract, established for the Six Nations in 1784 and originally extending six miles on either side of the Grand River. We acknowledge the history of these lands, the significant loss of territory that followed, and the continuing importance of Haudenosaunee sovereignty, stewardship, and connection to the land.

For Kanata Plaza, this acknowledgement is rooted in family and community. What began as a family business built to create opportunity and support future generations has grown into a gathering place for fuel, food, retail, services, and local enterprise. That growth carries a responsibility to ensure that the Plaza continues to contribute to the well-being, strength, and longevity of the Six Nations community. The family’s broader business story is explicitly tied to creating long-term community benefit, employment, and a destination that supports other local businesses.

We are grateful to welcome community members and visitors to Six Nations, and we remain committed to operating with care for the land, respect for the people who call it home, and a responsibility to the generations who will come after us.
